My 2018 Favorite Reads

This year was really hard for me, reading got me through the last 4 tough months. In September I was told I had stage one endometrial cancer, I've had two surgeries and started radiation treatments so losing myself in a good story has helped me keep sane ... except for the moments that I wanted to scream at an author. On the plus side, I also released my first book Cutting Loose Ends. Writing that story has been a big goal in my life, I wanted my two beautiful daughters to know that their mom didn't give up on a dream.

It looks like duets, series, and trilogies kept me busy or as I like to say ... on the edge. I really wish I could list down every book that I loved but the list wouldn't end. I know I give out a lot of 5 Stars in my reviews but that's because they fall under I LOVE when you're looking at it from a rating scale. I love a good story that has me feeling All of the emotions, falling in love with characters and most importantly thinking about it after I finished reading it. So here is the list of my favorites for 2018 reads.

I'm looking forward to what's in store for 2019.

Release Blitz for Right Where I Want You by Jessica Hawkins

Title: Right Where I Want You
Author: Jessica Hawkins
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 28, 2018

There’s a thin line between love and hate . . . and it cuts right through the middle of their office.

Bad boys? They run right over good girls like Georgina Keller.

But after a confidence-shattering breakup, she’s determined not to let anyone at her new workplace push her around—least of all the brooding creative director, a “bad boy of publishing” who’s made it clear she’s enemy #1.

Sebastian Quinn's taste for fast cars, late nights, and beautiful women may have gotten him to the top of a leading New York magazine, but the reputation that made him is suddenly threatening to end his career.

Georgina can help Modern Man shed its bad reputation, but in order to do that, she’ll have to start at the top—and no amount of rakish charm or inconvenient attraction will distract her.

Because if Sebastian gets her right where he wants her, it means she’s going down.

At the stadium’s concession stand, I took a tall stool, putting Georgina and I at eye level since she stood. “So, why didn’t you kiss François?” I asked. “Bad breath?”
She gasped into her hand. “My breath is fine.”
“I meant his. I’m sure yours is pure relish on a hotdog.”
She made a face. “Gross.”
“I happen to love relish,” I said. “But does François?”
Each time I said François with flourish, she flinched. I didn’t care. Something about him bugged me—I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
“We didn’t kiss because you interrupted us,” she pointed out.
“So? If I were in his position, and we both wanted that kiss, I wouldn’t let anyone stop me.”
Frank and I are clicking,” she said, scowling. “There was even mention of spending time at his summerhouse.”
She coughed into her fist. “Boca Raton.”
The idea of Georgina spending a summer with him in Boca Raton was tragic enough that I almost smiled. I got the sense she was playing up the date. If it was so great, why wasn’t she sitting here with him? And why was I more relieved than smug about that? “Meanwhile, Justin and I will be clamming in Montauk.”
“You two should really just make it official and announce your love to the world.”
“But then I wouldn’t get to flirt with pretty girls.”
“For someone who pretends to have as much game as you,” she said, “I still haven’t seen you successfully flirt with any girls since I’ve known you.”
I smirked. “How do you know I’m not flirting with you right now?”

Blog Tour + Book Review for MORE by J.D. Hawkins

MORE (RYDER BROTHERS #3) by J.D. Hawkins Release Date: December 19th Cover Design: Laurelin Paige Photographer: Wander Aguiar Photography Cover Model: Wayne S.
NOW AVAILABLE!! Free on Kindle Unlimited!! (Links to come!!)
Blurb: It starts with a bang. As in me and Hadley, the maid of honor, during my brother’s wedding reception. Sure, it was amazing, but I’m a one-and-done kind of guy. After spending years of my life getting screwed over by managers and agents with the Ryder Brothers, I no longer like to commit. I don’t even play music anymore. The secret that I haven’t told anyone- is that I can’t. A chance to raise money for my best friend’s nonprofit to help child stars means it’s time to deal with my block. Hiring Hadley seems like the obvious solution. She wants inside my head (not happening). I want to bang her again (she says she can’t sleep with clients). Between my baggage and her professionalism, can my problem even be fixed? Or will we both end up just wanting more?

J.D. Hawkins grabs my attention right from the start with a passionate page-turning scene. I hate to admit that my expectations were high for Jonas. Hawkins collaborated with two of my favorite authors in the Ryder Brothers series, he blew me away with Jonas Ryder's story. If you have read the first two books  CLOSE by Laurelin Paige and Want by Kayti McGee you were teased with these characters Jonas and Hadley.

Jonas is the oldest brother of the three Ryder brothers, he took on a lot of responsibilities at a young age. He protected his brothers on and off of the stage. Performing was their life, but what was behind the scenes of living the life of these rockstars was left in the hands of someone who should be enjoying that life himself. Jonas is such a dominant alpha male with control issues, which is totally understandable. I was able to feel the burdens and struggles Jonas carried, that's what makes this story so good and that is due to Hawkin's writing style.

Hadley is a life coach and feels the need for a new challenge in her own life. When Jonas Ryder asks for her help, her lines become blurred between personal and professional. Their chemistry is steamy from the start. Hadley's coaching techniques with Jonas kept me entertained and with a smile on my face, those were also some of the heart touching moments in the story.

I love this rockstar romance, it gave me all the feels that I have been missing lately. Jonas was so mysterious from the first book, his story of missing the connection he had with his brothers, finding the love he once had for music, giving up control, letting go of the past, and feeling deserving of MORE when it comes to Hadley. It's so hard not to want to keep on writing about this story. I'm telling myself as I write this review to breathe, stop smiling, and not to give too much away.
A Perfect 5 Star Ending to The Ryder Brothers Series!

Excerpt: Hadley has something about her. Something beyond that daytime fantasy-inducing body and those cinematic eyes. So maybe it’s not just lust that’s made her dance around my thoughts for months now—it’s not like I’m short of women willing to fulfill those kinds of wants. Perhaps some part of me knows Hadley could be good for me, in more ways than one.
I watch her a while longer, feeling the calm energy that her presence seems to bring. Just looking at her is enough. Then, as she finishes her juice and moves away from the group to put the empty glass on a table, I turn to the bartender and instruct him on what to mix up for me.
A Pirate’s Booty. Once again.
The place is louder now, as people pass around the baby clothes and toys, conversation splitting off into a dozen smaller, more intense ones. I take the drink and move through the guests, smiling as a few of them call hellos, and eventually reach my target.
“Third time’s the charm?” I say, once I’m close.
She spins around and looks startled for a second. Her eyes going from mine, to the drink, and back to mine again before she tilts her head and casts that warm sunbeam of a smile at me.
“I appreciate it, but I’m not drinking tonight. Driving.”
I push the drink a little closer to her.
“I’m sure there’s a kind gentleman somewhere around here who’s willing to take you home.”
She laughs gently, then bites her lip in a gesture so sexy it could be its own porn category. A moment of hesitation, the indecision written all over her expressive face—but I know she’ll give in.
“You know what? I’ll take you up on that,” she says, side-eyeing me coquettishly as she takes the drink and sips. I savor it, the way she raises her chin, the slenderness of her neck. God, she’s incredible.
“Very good,” she says, her smile a little wider now, a little more subtextual.

Are you looking for a holiday read?

If you're in the mood for reading some holiday cheer with a side of naughty, I put together 5 books that share the Christmas spirit.  I remember the days that I wanted an escape from the chaos of the holidays, the kids home from school for two weeks, the crowded shopping malls, family gatherings, having to be the one to prepare the meals and storing of left-overs. I sometimes wished I could blink the dishes and all the torn wrapping paper that was left on the floor away. Well, after you have taken care of all of that. I recommend that you reward yourself with a wonderful story, some that have obnoxious adonis looking men, cheerful women, pumpkin pie, candy canes, hot cocoa, small towns, and some drama. These stories have it all ... scrooge-like sexy men, women that bake, business owners, single dad and a Gods gift to women quarterback.

Happy Holidays!

Christmas Cake by Celia Aaron

Ezra Grayson sits in his palatial estate and lords over the hamlet of Brooktown. He owns everything. Except her. Adeline Bishop runs Bishop Bakery, one of the last non-Grayson businesses in town. She’s sent the mysterious Mr. Grayson one of her signature Christmas cakes--while also refusing all his offers to buy her bakery--for the past 5 years. This year’s cake delivery brings their feud to a head. Ezra decides to confront Adeline, but he doesn’t expect the curvy baker to be quite so sweet. When naughty meets nice, who will get their just desserts?

I totally devoured Christmas Cakes by Celia Aaron in one sitting. This is such a feel-good Christmas short story, I could picture every sweet and sinfully delicious sexy moment between Ezra and Adeline.

Ezra Grayson is our typical holiday scrooge except for the fact that he is sexy as hell but his inner frozen shell thaws because of a beautiful bakery owner. Adeline Bishop is as sweet as can be and she has been bullied to sell her store for years. After 5 years her refusal to sell the bakery has finally taken a toll on Ezra ... It's time that they meet.

I love the secrets, lies, friendships from the secondary characters and a rising romance make for the best holiday cheer from Celia Aaron.

GRAHAM by Logan Chance

One-click TODAY:
The holidays are not jolly this year. After losing my job, they’re downright depressing. It’s all good, I take that big lump of coal, and turn it into an opportunity to get my homemade soaps into Mountain Goat Resort. I just need to convince Graham Steele, the owner.
If I can nail this deal, everything will be merry and bright. Things veer out of control when I end up nailing a sexy stranger at the resort the night before my big meeting. Before I know it, I’ve got a fake fiancé and twelve days to spend pretending with his family. I’m definitely going on the naughty list this year, and Graham Steele put me there.

Graham by Logan Chance is a great romantic comedy holiday story. Graham Steele, mountain resort owner grabbed me from the start. He is all sexiness with the bite of a holiday grinch when it comes to his family. He may have a plan this Christmas, bring home Zoe, a beautiful, bright, honest stranger that can win the heart of anyone.

Graham had me laughing from the start, I could not get this silly grin off of my face throughout my read. The sexual chemistry that resonates from Graham and Zoe is knee buckling.  The characters are easy to fall in love with and leave a lasting impression, the story grabbed a hold of my heart, and I had all the holiday feels. I didn't want this short story to end.

Christmas in Kentbury by Claudia Burgoa

If practice makes perfect, I should excel at pretending that Heath Miller doesn’t affect me. That I’m immune to that wide jaw, taut body, and the unique woodsy-aftershave-engine-oil scent that makes my ovaries explode.

Since before I could walk, he’s been my champion. My best friend. The one problem I can’t solve. Why? If I tell him I love him, I’ll lose him and his adorable daughter. Maybe the best Christmas gift I can give him—and myself—is to turn in the keys to my B&B and put some distance between us.

I’ve made my share of mistakes. Lost my MIT scholarship, came home to fix cars and romance Kentbury’s female tourists—until I wound up a single father. For all eight years of Cassie’s life, Knightly’s been my anchor.

I’ve changed. Cassie’s the best part of me, and Knightly’s been there every step of the way. But as Christmas lays its mantle of magic over Kentbury, she drops a bomb—she’s following a dream to New York City. I’ve got one week to do everything, say everything I’ve never dared. To convince my best friend to be mine—ours—for all the holidays to come.

I am a Claudia Burgoa fan, I am able to feel the heart in her stories. I feel like I'm blushing writing this review for Christmas in Kentbury. This is such a sweet best friends to lovers romance with such a drawn-out tease. I didn't mind that it took a very long time for these two characters to see what's always been right in front of them.

Knightly (Lee) has been in love with her and her two brothers best friend Heath for as long as she can remember. Lee believed in her heart of hearts that Heath has always been the man for her, it didn't matter that he found himself being a single dad. Running her B & B wasn't cutting it anymore, the longing for a family of her own has her deciding if she would be able to leave her family, Heath, his daughter Cassie and, her business behind so she could protect her heart. Lee loves Heath and Cassie as if they were both hers, that's what hurts the most ... they are not.

Heath is a single dad, a mechanic who was told by two people that should have mattered that he was not good enough. His daughter and best friend never made him feel like he didn't matter in fact they were the two most important girls in his life. He would fight all his feelings for the one woman that has always been by his side just so he would never lose her. Heath never thought that holding back from his best friend could be the reason she would want to get away. Now he will do whatever he has to do to make her his forever.

Christmas in Kentbury has that picturesque Hallmark town setting, loving family, townspeople and friends. I fell in love with Knightly, Heath and his adorable 8-year-old daughter Cassie. Claudia Burgoa left me with other characters that I want to read more from. This story is much too short, but I loved every minute of it.

JOCK by Jacob Chance

When the dean of students asked me for a favor, I had no idea it would mean tutoring Owen Dawson.

Me, forced to spend time with Boston University’s notorious quarterback?

With his dark hair, chiseled body, and a promising future playing in the NFL, every guy on campus wants to be him. Every girl wants to be under him.

Every girl, except me.

But when we work closely together, I realize how much I enjoy his quick wit and easy sense of humor. And resisting his glowing smile and smoldering green eyes is a lot harder than I imagined.

How do I keep the irresistible jock from slipping past my defenses and into my heart?

*can be read as a standalone*

I'm a big fan of the Boston Terriers series by Jacob Chance and I have waited for Owen Dawson's story for a while now. True to Chance's wonderful way with words, I was blown away from the start with Jock. It is a beginning that had me questioning if I was going to be a fan of Owen. I do have to admit it did take me a while to have the loving feeling that I have for Trevor and Zeke.

Owen Dawson has a sense of humor, loyalty, and a sex appeal about him that is breathtaking but it is his lack of judgment that needs refinement. Life takes an unexpected turn in his football career. Owen has to catch up on his school work and is assigned a tutor. He never expected to fall hard for the studious beauty that consumes his every moment. Owen has to deal with his own forthcoming, the one thing that he does ask of others is total honesty ... keeping things from him can be a deal breaker.

Eliza Michel, is a very beautiful young lady, smart, mature and has built a wall so high when it comes to football players. Eliza finds that her services are needed when the university's star quarterback needs a tutor, her restrainment from falling head over heels for this Adonis is funny and heartwarming. Eliza has so many secrets that it had my head spinning. These secrets can break the hearts of two people that have been waiting to find a love that was written from the start.

JOCK brings together past characters that remind us of the strength and bond that these family and friends have. This is a story of consequences and the impact that they have on yourself or others around you. Owen and Eliza's slow tease of falling for each other is sexy. The emotional impact is heartfelt. I love everything about JOCK but the one thing that I love more than anything is knowing there are other characters to look forward too. That could be wishful thinking on my part, I'm one that believes if I set it out into the world ... it could happen.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Christmas is the season of the heart, and #1 New York Timesbestselling author Debbie Macomber is here to warm yours with a delightful holiday novel of first impressions and second chances.

Merry Knight is pretty busy these days. She’s taking care of her family, baking cookies, decorating for the holidays, and hoping to stay out of the crosshairs of her stressed and by-the-book boss at the consulting firm where she temps. Her own social life is the last thing she has in mind, much less a man. Without her knowledge, Merry’s well-meaning mom and brother create an online dating profile for her—minus her photo—and the matches start rolling in. Initially, Merry is incredulous, but she reluctantly decides to give it a whirl.

Soon Merry finds herself chatting with a charming stranger, a man with similar interests and an unmistakably kind soul. Their online exchanges become the brightest part of her day. But meeting face-to-face is altogether different, and her special friend is the last person Merry expects—or desires. Still, sometimes hearts can see what our eyes cannot. In this satisfying seasonal tale, unanticipated love is only a click away.

Thanks to the local library's book club that I joined earlier this year, I was able to enjoy my first Debbie Macomber book which is Merry and Bright. This story is such a cute holiday story that left my heart happy.

Merry Knight is sweet, loving, caring, strong and beautiful. She is so lucky to have a wonderful family that loves and are willing to do anything for each other. Since Merry doesn't have time to date, her brother and mother take it upon themselves to sign Merry up on a dating website. She just has to make it through the last couple of months at her temp job with a boss that goes by the books and seems to have no holiday cheer. Her moody boss Jayson will not keep her from getting to know this online stranger, in fact, everything about this stranger and getting to know more about him without meeting him first has Merry the happiest she has ever been. That's until it all comes crashing to a halt with questions, uncertainty, and insecurity and will lead Merry to keep a secret that could destroy relationships.

Merry and Bright grabbed my attention from the start, it is a book that I did not want to put down. The story and characters captured me with its humor, heart, love and the Knight's family holiday spirit.  If you're looking for a Christmas feel-good story  ... this one is perfect.

Book Review for Make You Mine by Tia Louise

(Brother's best friend, forbidden love, small-town, military second-chance romance.)
A promise written on a coaster. A lost night in a dark room. Grayson Cole was my brother’s best friend. He was all of my firsts. Then he went away...
Drew Harris was just a kid, a senior in high school, my best friend’s little sister. They said she was too young to know her feelings. I was too old to have them, so I left to join the military.
Four years passed. Loss, injury, angry words I can never take back… I’m home, but I’m not the same. Neither is she.
Now she’s a woman with flashing blue eyes, long blonde hair, and gorgeous curves. Still, she’s the same sweet smile, the same sassy mouth… I could never say No to her before.
I should for her sake. She deserves better than what I’ve become, scarred and damaged.
“They told me to stay away from you. I went away to try… God, I tried. Now everything has changed. I’m back, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make you mine…”

Make You Mine is young love, best friend's sister, a military and second-chance romance. Tia Louise amazes me with all of the emotions this story brought out in me. The pain of survivals guilt is felt and the want of having what should be yours and is only a touch away is heartbreaking.

Grayson Cole has been there for his best friends sister since she was four years old and he was eight. He has always been a hero in her eyes and even when tragedy strikes, she never sees him as anything less. It's his guilt, secrets, insecurities and judgment from others that keeps him from feeling deserving of the one person he wants in his life. His pain tore at my heart. He's so swoon-worthy and everything I love in a possessive alpha male.

Drew Harris fell madly deeply in love with her brother's best friend and knew he was all she ever wanted. By the time she's heading to college, she's Gray's in every way heart, body, and soul. Drew is such a strong character, her loss would break any woman but it's her need to help others that keeps her moving forward. Drew's best friend is hilarious and is the perfect person to see her through all of the tears.

Make You Mine is a rollercoaster of an emotional read. It's perfectly written in dual POV. I was able to feel the push and pull of love, loss, disappointment, and heartbreak. Drew and Gray's chemistry is sizzling but it's their love that made a lasting impression on me. I loved the secondary characters and I can't wait for Ruby and Remi's story.
5 Must Read Stars!
Excerpt: “Your daddy’s right.” Gray looked at me with tortured blue eyes that contradicted every word he said. “You’re so young. You don’t know what you want.”
I only kissed him again, crawled onto his lap again, put his hands on me and made us forget my disapproving father, my overprotective brother. Neither of them had been there for me the way Grayson always had.
“I know what I want…”
