Excerpt

After spending two hours outdoors getting my headshots taken by Finn, I slide into the backseat of the Uber with Finn, grateful to be back inside. He puts an arm around my shoulders and draws me to him. “Cold?”

I should pull away. Once I have it, though, his warmth is impossible to reject and feels as necessary as breathing. “A little.”

He squeezes me closer. Moves his hand up and down my bicep. “You’re shivering.”

The driver looks at us in the rearview mirror. “You guys are a cute couple.”

“Thanks,” I say.

Finn arches an eyebrow, pleased—because she thinks we’re together, or because I didn’t correct her? I don’t even want to correct her. I’ve missed the look she’s giving us, the one a woman makes when she’s more envious than jealous. I get it all the time with Nathan. That feeling, coupled with the heater blasting from the front seat, leaves me slightly woozy.

We’re just like actors in a movie, I tell myself. This isn’t real. It doesn’t count. After a few minutes, the urgency to get warm lessens, and the door opens to another less pressing, but still basic need. Because that’s how my arousal feels—essential. The more it’s ignored, the fiercer it grows. I snuggle into his side. All it takes is his hand on my upper thigh to invite an assault of graphic fantasies. Finn shoving me down on the backseat because he can’t control himself anymore. Thrusting his fingers under the hem of my dress to find me ready for him. The lower half of my body aches with sudden demands.

“Some of those photos we just took were for me,” he whispers in my ear. He couldn’t have chosen a worse moment to tease me. My legs are jelly-like. “Does that make you mad?”

I check to see if the driver is paying attention. She must know I’m married. How can something so vital and concrete in my life be hidden? “What if I say yes?” I ask.

“I’ll delete them. If you’re sure it doesn’t . . . turn you on.”

I try not to pant. “Why would it?”

“Imagining me looking at them later.”

I turn my head. Our mouths are a breath apart. One more inch, and they’ll touch. Again. Those lips are the color of sunburnt rock but whisper soft. We’ve done it once. Would one more kiss hurt? I can’t stop the image of him looking at me, my exposed, white throat on his computer, his cock in a firm fist. It should disgust me. It makes my panties damp instead.

“No response necessary,” he says as the car pulls up to the curb. “I can read it on your face.”

Book Review- 9 Letters by Blake Austin

9 Letters

by Blake Austin

Luke Cawley is a broken man. After his wife’s tragic death, he lost everything that mattered in the world. Now, his life is filled with hard days, harder nights, and a steady stream of alcohol and the wrong kind of women. Nothing helps.

Until the letters arrive on Luke’s doorstep.

Nine envelopes. Nine messages. Nine chances to find his way back.

Rae Goode is looking for the real thing. After fighting her way out of a string of bad relationships, she’s ready for something different–something true.
She meets Luke while piecing her life together, and right away she can tell that he’s different. Drawn together by fate and the desire to heal, Rae and Luke discover new ways to mend their broken hearts–one letter at a time.

Discover Blake Austin’s debut novel of loss, redemption, and ever-enduring love.

                                       Favorite Quotes:

Nobody should die in springtime, but least of all someone so alive.

then I laid out the 9 letters. I didn't
know what was in them, but I knew I didn't
want to rush. I knew, somehow, this was a
moment to treasure, a moment to linger on.

you and I let our souls come together and, well, I think I know you better than I know myself.

It was like falling into a night sky in the middle of the dessert, nothing existing outside of us

Her smell wouldn't last forever. It was like an echo of her voice, and it would soon fade to nothing.

                                       My Review:

Losing your wife is like losing your whole future, present and half your past.

When I read the blurb for 9 Letters I knew that this was one story I wanted to read and I would need a box of tissues close by. I never expected it to be one that I was going to have a hard time walking away from. I wanted to try and write this review fresh so I woke up this morning of having only 3 and a half hours of sleep so I could wake up and finish the story.

Let me start with how much I love and got frustrated with the main character Luke Cawley, I know I shouldn't say that because he is a broken man. Blake Austin did such a wonderful job with making me feel the emotions of a husband in mourning. I was able to feel his pain, his anger, his guilt and the love he had for his wife.  Luke is such a strong man with love and support from his family and friends but after the death of his wife, he pushed them all away. He felt as if didn't deserve this life and he simply was living one day at a time, that's until he receives a box on the one year anniversary of his wife's passing. The box contains 9 letters from his wife, her way of helping him get through his grief and find a way to move on. Even through her illness and her death his wife Emily found a way to love and put him first, through steps/ assignments each letter needing to be completed before he could read the next one. It was simple things some of them tougher emotionally than others but it was what he needed.

It was one of the steps that Luke meets Rae Goode, it was a connection right from the start. Rae is a beautiful woman who wears her heart on her sleeve, but finds herself in bad relationships. Her smile and love for others radiates and that is one thing that draws Luke to her, it's a flirty friendship to begin with. With Luke's guilt of loving another woman and Rae not looking to fall for the wrong man (which she knows Luke is nothing like the men she has known), this relationship might never happen.

9 Letters had me a emotional mess, with Luke remembering moments with his wife and reading each letter that would either put a smile on his face or cause more grief. I found myself tearing up and fighting back my "ugly cry". I love Luke's strong moments and his moments of weakness, his moments with Rae are fun and passionate.  Ugh!!! I find myself still tearing up still thinking about the words written by his wife. Blake Austin did such a wonderful job with his first debut.

Let me end my review with this and don't judge me... A man that finds a way to write rescuing a dog from a shelter in a storyline deserves 5 f*#cking stars.  I usually end my reviews with for mature readers or some sort of warning, this one is a little tough because there are some explicit language and sex scenes but not  enough to detract from the story, I found them to be added bonus.

Book Review- In the Silence by Ani Bishop

In the Silence
by Ani Bishop

Amy Welton has a good life. Her mother and brother are the world to her, as is her best friend—and sister-by-choice—Bella. That’s how she finds herself in the midst of planning a party for two amazing people, and the help she receives comes in the form of one very sexy, dark, alpha male.

Rylee Kane isn’t the kind of guy you’d bring home to your mother. He’s the one who takes a woman to bed for a single purpose, and that ain’t love. But when he’s saddled with beautiful Amy, something happens to him. She’s a woman whom he’d never think of taking to bed, yet, he can’t come up with anything he’d rather do. The stakes rise, and his will is challenged.

He pisses her off all the time. She tests his nerves at every turn. When her feelings morph into something she swore not to let happen, will she stick through the danger to see the end? Or will they be over before they really begin?

                        Favorite Quotes:

How had this man made her want him after just one look, one touch, one word?

she made it clear that she was not the one-night stand kind of girl. And he as definitely only a one-night stand kind of guy.

" When I finally have you ready beneath me, it won't be for a quickie. I'll take my time to worship your body he way it should be.

I don't need your brain, just your body."

               My Review:

I am very lucky to have read both books in the No More Secrets series, I enjoyed Ani Bishops writing with My Light and I loved it even more with In the Silence, both books can be read as standalone's. I just love the intermingling of characters from both stories.

Amy Welton, a bookstore owner who loves her friends and family more than anything. Amy is beautiful but has problems with picking the right kind of man, She is strong, independent, loyal and wants everything to be perfect. Especially the planning of a surprise party for two of her best friends. Amy's only issue is who she is planning the party with.

Rylee Kane, he is controlling, dominate and sexy as freaking hell. He is not a one woman man and that is perfectly clear to all those around him. His best friend Mike needs help to plan a surprise party for the woman that he loves and that is how Amy comes into his life and never leaves his mind.

The relationship between Rylee and Amy is one that I enjoyed reading, His controlling ways is too much for Amy to handle and she may be the only person that could put him in his place. I loved how each had reasons to resist the temptations of each other, it made the coming together even that much sexier. In the Silence is such a good read, it has the suspense, romance, true friendships and just the right amount of passion I enjoy in a good story. Looking forward to more of Ani Bishops work, hopefully with some of the same characters from the series.

" We have our own lives." And those separate lives are bleeding into a places they shouldn't.

How do I tell the person I love the most in the world that he's failing me? and that another man is making it better?

" Space is something I'll never give you too much of. Promise me the same?"

Once could be argued a crime of passion. But twice? " Two Times..."

" The man puts you on a fucking pedestal.
And you do the same to him. It's about time
you knocked each other off, because now
you're on the ground where you should be.
And that's the foundation you need to build
on,"

" I know it'd be easy to walk away," he says. " It
takes more guts to stay. You can fight against him
while you fight for him. The marriage will
come out stronger."

                               My Review:

***  Is a scar bad if everything that led to it was good?***

I am having a little trouble writing my review for Slip of The Tongue by Jessica Hawkins, I have deleted my first line more than a couple times. As most of you  can tell if you have read some of my reviews, I am a very emotional reader. I get myself lost in a story and sometimes it's hard to let go of the characters. This story did that to me....

Sadie Hunt, a beautiful woman and wife who somehow lost her husbands attention and can't understand when, why and how this happened. Her husband worshiped the ground she walked on and made her feel more than loved and all of a sudden that is gone, he distances himself  and needs space and Sadie has no idea why, all she feels is alone. I have to admit she does try and gives her husband chances to explain, she loves him more than anything but she is feeling abandoned and treated like he no longer wants in the marriage.  Everyday is harder and lonely for her to handle until she is noticed by her new neighbor.

Finn Cohen, he exudes sexiness from his smile to the words that come out of his mouth. Finn is everything Sadie is needing at the moment and has secrets that could draw them together forever or could separate this attraction that is pulling them together like a magnet. Sadie and Finn's relationship starts off a friendship but soon becomes something both are desiring, Finn's emotions becoming stronger and he starts believing  Sadie is his future. The chemistry these two have is so hot and emotional. I found myself lost and torn between this relationship.

Nathan Hunt, loving husband he is everything Sadie wants and needs in her life, so why is he pushing her away? As much as I tried, I wanted to find fault with him. I wanted to blame him for the mistakes in the marriage and I felt deceived by him. What are the secrets Nathan is withholding from Sadie? Why can't he communicate with his wife? Will it be to late to save his marriage? OMG!!! Just writing this section, I am literally fighting back tears.

Slip of the Tongue had me from the beginning and never let me go, it is one of those stories that once you pick it up, it will be hard to put down. This story will make you feel giddy, angry, heartbroken, and  sexually frustrated due to the infidelity. I say that because even though the the sex between Sadie and Finn is scorching hot and with emotion behind it, my mind kept saying, " This is so wrong".  The sex between Sadie and her husband felt so passionate, wanted, needed but forced. Even though Jessica Hawkins left me a emotional mess, I loved this story and I am now a fan of her writing.

Book Review- Teach Me by Lola Darling

Teach Me
by Lola Darling

“Looks like you dressed for the occasion." “You said I should come prepared, professor." She wriggles beneath me. I bring my hand down on her bare ass, just sharp enough to make her feel it, not enough to leave a mark. She inhales sharply, her hips bucking. “And have you, Ms. Reed? Or will I need to reprimand you more thoroughly?” When Harper Reed came to Oxford, her dream was to study modern poetry with the infamous Professor Jack Kingston, NOT to sleep with him. But his lectures are intoxicating, his knowledge captivating, and his accent drops panties faster than Charlie Hunnam on a Saturday night. Harper has never made good decisions when it comes to sex and Jack has never been able to commit, yet there’s something between them that neither of them has felt before. But students and teachers are not supposed to fraternize, even as this out of control connection puts both of their futures on the line. When their forbidden love is tested, can they make the grade?

Favorite Quotes:

"They won't hear us. Not until make you really scream."

When you threatened to discipline me, I have to admit, that wasn't exactly what I had in mind.

My lips curls. Is that a challenge? No, my dear.
That is a promise.

She makes me a better man. My love for her makes me better.

My Review:

Lola Darling knows how to entice me into one of her stories and makes it impossible to want to put down. Teach Me is exactly what I enjoy in a professor/ student relationship, it has your beautiful and sexy legal age student and a very gorgeous dominate professor with a alluring accent.

Harper Reed is pretty much your average young woman having issues with picking the wrong men. Harper's dream is to study modern poetry with Professor Jack Kingston who she has heard so much about. It took one night in a party prop confessional with a mysterious and sexy stranger with a voice that is easy on the ears to change Harper's studies at Oxford. It turns out that the stranger is her professor and her only option is to drop the course. Unless a offer of a lifetime that she is willing to work hard for changes her mind, the only downside would be working side by side with her professor.

Professor Jack Kingston is a man with commitment problems, he can seduce and sleep with women but seeing a future with them was the last thing on his mind. Jack could not stop thinking about the young woman from the party and the sexual connection they had in that confessional. He never thought he would see her again and then there she was sitting in his classroom beautiful as ever. Would Jack be able to be professional and stay away from Harper? Is the connection they feel for each other stronger than they can control? Will someone from his past destroy what Jack and Harper have?

Teach Me draws you in with the beautifully written descriptive scenery, the heartwarming tug of war of a love story and the finding of oneself to fight for yourself or to fight for the person you love. This story has it all, it's funny, heartfelt and extremely sexy. Downside to this story was... that it had to end.
